Parashat Shelach L’cha
“Send for yourself”

In Shelach L’cha
The Key People include Moshe (Moses); one spy from each tribe (Shammua, shafat, Kalev, Igal, Hoshea/Y’hoshua, Palti, Gaddiel, Gaddi, Ammiel, S’tur, Nachbi, G’uel): Amalek, haChitti (Hittites), haY’vusi (Jebusites), haEmori (Amorites), haC’na’ani (Canaanites): N’filim (Nephilim); the community, Aharon (Aaron); and a Shabbat woodgather.
The Scenes include the Desert of Paran, C’na’an (Canaan) from the Desert of Tsin (Zin) to R’chov (Rehab) by L’vo Chamat (Lebo Hamath), Chevron (Hebron), Valley of Eshcol, Kadesh, Tent of Meeting, and Chormah (Hormah).
The Main Events include sending spies, a bad report, God’s desire to destroy the nation, Moshe interceding; 40 year delay, changing minds too late, defeat; laws about offerings; a man stoned for gathering wood on Shabbat; and tzitzit to remind us to follow the LORD‘s commands.
Adonai spoke to Moses saying, “Send some men on your behalf to investigate the land of Canaan, which I am giving to Bnei-Yisrael. Each man you are to send will be a prince of the tribe of his fathers, a man from each tribe.”

The Haftarah
Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent out two spies from Shittim saying: “Go, explore the land, especially Jericho.” So they went and came to the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and lodged there.

The Brit Chadasha
And there was a woman with a blood flow for twelve years, who could not be healed by anyone. She came up from behind and touched the tzitzit of Yeshua’s garment. Immediately, her blood flow stopped.
