Yom Teruah (Rosh Hashanah)
Feast of Trumpets (Jewish New Year)
Here are the Torah, Haftarah and suggested Brit Chadasha (New Testament) readings for this week. Listen to the current Portion readings from the Tree of Life Version here.
• Genesis 21:1-34
• Numbers 29:1-6
• 1 Samuel 1:1-2:10
• 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
Then Adonai visited Sarah just as He had said, and Adonai did for Sarah just as He had spoken. So Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time that God had told him. Abraham named his son who was born to him—whom Sarah bore for him—Isaac.
(Genesis 21:1-3 TLV)
On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a sacred assembly. You are to do no laborious work. It is for you a day for sounding the shofar.
(Numbers 29:1 TLV)
They rose up early in the morning and worshipped before Adonai, then went back to their home to Ramah. Then Elkanah was intimate with his wife Hannah, and Adonai remembered her. So it came to pass at the turn of the year that Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She called his name Samuel, “because I have asked Adonai for him.”
(1 Samuel 1:19-20 TLV)
The Brit Chadasha
For the Lord Himself shall come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the blast of God’s shofar, and the dead in Messiah shall rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left behind, will be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air—and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
(1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 TLV)
