In Vayikra
The Key People include Moshe (Moses), b’nei Yisra’el (the children of Israel), and Aharon’s (Aaron’s) sons.
The Scene is the Tabernacle, in the wilderness of Sinai.
The Main Events include the LORD calling to Moshe and giving instructions for bringing the various types of offerings – burnt, grain, peace, sin and trespass; and more instructions about what the priests will do and what can be eaten.
Now Adonai called to Moses and spoke to him out of the Tent of Meeting, saying: “Speak to Bnei-Yisrael, and tell them: When anyone of you brings an offering to Adonai, you may present your offering of livestock, from the herd or from the flock. “If his sacrifice is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to present a male without blemish. He is to offer it at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, so that he may be accepted before Adonai. He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, so that it will be accepted for him to make atonement on his behalf. He is to slaughter the bull before Adonai. Then Aaron’s sons, the kohanim, are to present the blood and splash it around on the altar that is at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
(Leviticus 1:1-5 TLV)
The Haftarah
Remember these things, Jacob, and Israel, for you are My servant. I formed you, you are My servant. Israel, you will not be forgotten by Me! I have blotted out your transgressions like a thick cloud and your sins like a mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.” Sing, O heavens, for Adonai has done it! Shout, depths of the earth! Break forth into singing, mountains, forest, and every tree in it! For Adonai has redeemed Jacob and will be glorified through Israel.
(Isaiah 44:21-23 TLV)
The Brit Chadasha
“Therefore if you are presenting your offering upon the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.
(Matthew 5:23-24 TLV)
